The World of Surrealism
I have become super fascinated in the world of Surrealism during this last year. I love stories because stories let your imagination roam wild and help you to dream the impossible. Surrealism is, in my opinion, quite similar. You get to think crazily weird and wacky thoughts and then express them visually.
Although my family is British, I was born in Brussels, Belgium. So what a coincidence that I am most interested in Rene Magritte! I really love the thoughtfulness that his paintings provoke in my mind. To dive into one of his artworks is to submerge yourself in a a landscape of puzzle, curiosity, possibilities, answers, and questions. As he said himself: “Art evokes the mystery without which the world would not exist.”
Now, as a writer, when I draw a surreal picture, I love to bring out not only curiosity, but also a message. Now, I wonder if you look at these drawings of mine above, can you try and guess what message I am aiming to get across? Remember, there is no real right or wrong: just see what you see, and find what you find. Until next time!
